Real Madrid the Richest club in the World

Real Madrid and Barcelona have extended their advantage over the rest of Europe at the top of the 2010-11 Football Money League.

Real Madrid have collected top spot for the seventh consecutive season with revenue of 479.5 million euros, while the remainder of the top six remains unchanged from 2009-10.

Barcelona are second with 450.7m euros, while defending English Premier League champions Manchester United were the highest ranked with 367m euros of revenue.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and EPL pair Arsenal and Chelsea round out the top six, while AC Milan and Inter were the highest ranked Italian teams in seventh and eighth respectively.

Liverpool’s lack of European football means they slipped to ninth, while Bundesliga outfit Schalke were a surprise 10th after their Champions League semi-final run boosted their coffers.

The Football Money League list, which is compiled by financial group Deloitte, in calculated by gathering income streams from three key areas – matchday revenue, broadcast revenue and commercial revenue.

Staggeringly, the top 20 earned a combined 4.4 billion euros in the period measured, a figure which represents one quarter of the entire revenue accumulated in the European football market.

Once again, the Money League top 20 comprises clubs from the ‘big five’ European leagues – EPL, LA Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 – with England having six entries in the top 20 and five more clubs which narrowly missed out .

“Continued growth of the top 20 clubs during 2010-11 emphasises the strength of football’s top clubs, especially in these tough economic times,” Deloitte’s Dan Jones said.

“Whilst revenue growth has slowed from eight percent in 2009-10 to three percent in 2010-11, their large and loyal supporter bases, ability to drive strong broadcast audiences and continuing attraction to corporate partners has made them relatively resilient to the economic downturn.”

1. Real Madrid 479.5m, 2. Barcelona 450.7m, 3. Manchester United 367m, 4. Bayern Munich 321.4m, 5. Arsenal 251.1m, 6. Chelsea 249.8m, 7. Milan 235.1m, 8. Inter 211.4m, 9. Liverpool 203.3m, 10. Schalke 202.4m, 11. Tottenham 181m, 12. Manchester City 169.6m, 13. Juventus 153.9m, 14. Marseille 150.4m, 15. Roma 143.5m, 16. Borussia Dortmund 138.5m, 17. Lyon 132.8m, 18. Hamburg 128.8m, 19. Valencia 116.8m, 20. Napoli 114.9m.

ANELKA LEAVING CHELSEA IN JANUARY

Chelsea have agreed terms with Shanghai Shenhua for the sale of Nicolas Anelka in January's transfer window.

The Chinese Super League club reported this morning that Anelka would sign a two-year contract next month after recently having a transfer request accepted by the Blues.

And Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a deal for the French striker's permanent transfer when the transfer window opens.

Anelka is in the final year of his Stamford Bridge contract and it became clear earlier this season that his three-year stay with the Blues would not be extended.

Former Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City and France star Anelka has already been welcomed by his prospective new team-mates, with captain Yu Tao writing on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter: "It's impossible not to be excited by this - a warm welcome to our new team-mate!"

Kevin Jooste, the Football Category Manager at Adidas South Africa.said that they received a brief from Orlando Pirates to develop an anniversary jersey that celebrated the rich history of the club as well the bright and exciting future, he also added that the design inspiration came from the the strip used by the 1973 all conquering team that won all cups that were on offer during that season.

Adidas developed a special anniversary logo using the the round logo which dates back to the 50's and was used until the late 60's as inspiration.

For the inner logo, Adidas used the original logo as an inspiration with 1937 accompanying it. As the result of close interaction between Adidas and the club, respecting history and celebrating the future, we have created a jersey that all Buccaneers can be proud off.

Inspired by 50's until late 60's

Its 5'o clock in the afternoon and i arrive at the Orlando Pirates encounter against Ajax FC of Cape town, while walking in to the stadium, i come across the Orlando Pirates Sebokeng Supporters branch wearing red replica jerseys with white shorts.

These supporters take turns in taking pictures as they promote an awareness for the World Aids Day, as they take pictures they start chanting the Orlando Pirates songs in support of their team, I decide to join and sing along.

We move towards the stadium and meet up with the Pimville Branch and the Klipspruit branch and as we going into the stadium we come across the Ajax CT few supporters and they are told that tonight is not their evening and its revenge time .

As we go into the stadium i decide to leave the group of chanting supporters and i go look for a suitable seat,i found my seat which was on the North side on seat 206.

I am in the stadium and seated, i come across this your man who tells his father that he wants to seat where he will see Benni score.

6 o' clock and the stadium is still empty where i am seated and a few people make way in to the South end of the stadium.

6h15 the host presenter Phumalani Msizi interviews the coaches and get their views about the game and starting line ups.

6h30 and the Orlando Pirates goal keeper coach walks on te pitch followed by the Pirates keepers for a warm up. A few minutes later the Ajax keepers walk on for their warm up and its still an empty stadium.

6h45 Players from both clubs walk on to the field for their match warm and still no sign from the Fans.
Players are taken through the paces by the fitness trainers while the coaches watch on.Match day Referees also taken on the field to warm, at this time is full of players and officials but still no sign of the Fans

It's 6h55 and the Orlando Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane welcomes the fans of both clubs to an empty stadiums while dancing to the tunes from the in house DJ.

19h27 and the players gather around the center cirlce for a minute of silence for the Late Styles Phumo, you can still hear vuvuzela's and silence only last for a few seconds instead of a minute.

Kickoff and still see a few fans, 5minutes into the game, its a goal by Thulasizwe Mbuyane and all of a sudden the South stand is full of Black and Red Pirates replica jerseys.

Half time and the score is still 1-0 and Orlando Pirates still lead, the supporters take an opportunity to look back at the first half and show unhappiness towards the Referee's decisions.

Second half is under way and just after the hour mark, the supporters are calling for change and the want Chansa out. They continue with their request for the change and it they seem to know who they want on.

Chelsea knocked out of the Carling Cup

Liverpool's Maxi (R) celebrates scoring the opening goal
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas believes his players are being affected by the anxiety of the club's fans when playing at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly condemned Chelsea to a 2-0 loss against Liverpool in their Carling Cup quarter-final on Tuesday. It was the second time in nine days Chelsea lost to Liverpool, after a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League on November 20.

Welshman Craig Bellamy, who had been left out of the Liverpool team for their Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday on compassionate grounds, looked shaken as fans paid their respects, but he went on to provide both assists in the win.

After their third defeat in four home matches, Villas-Boas called on the Londoners' supporters to start taking the pressure off the players.

And at the Emirates stadium, Roberto Mancini's Manchester City progressed to the last four after a hard-fought 1-0 quarter-final win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

A superb counter-attacking move saw striker Edin Dzeko dash clear from just outside his own area after an Arsenal corner, and he fed Adam Johnson.

Siwengu Match day Preview

La Liga

Spanish giants Barcelona welcomes Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou,Pep Guardiola's men will be looking to bounce back from their shock defeat to Getafe over the weekend when they face the Madrid club.

Carles Puyol is expected to partner Gerard Pique in the center of defense after being rested during the 1-0 defeat to Getafe on Saturday, so Eric Abidal is likely to start at left back.

Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta have both returned to training and are in contention for starts against Rayo. Expect the former to be given the nod ahead of Thiago in midfield with Iniesta due to start the game on the substitutes bench.

After Alexis Sanchez struggled to impress over the weekend, Pep Guardiola could rotate his attack with Pedro given a start alongside Lionel Messi and David Villa, after returning from a knee problem.

For the visitors, Raul Tamudo could be given the lone frontman role in place of Andrija Delibasic who struggled in the 2-1 defeat to Valencia over the weekend. Elsewhere, Michel Labaka is expected to return to the center of defense in place of Javi Arribas.

Serie A Preview: Napoli - Juventus

Napoli-Walter Mazzarri will be expecting a significant improvement in his side's performance levels after only collecting a disappointing 1-1 draw with Atalanta over the weekend. The result also came in stark contrast to their triumphant display midweek against Manchester City in the Champions League.

However, the Napoli coach received particular criticism for dropping Ezequiel Lavezzi on Saturday, and the Argentine forward is set to be reinstated in place of Goran Pandev, who failed to impress in his colleague's place as one of the two players supporting Edinson Cavani.

Meanwhile for Juventus, just one alteration is in the pipeline for Antonio Conte, as Claudio Marchisio is suspended for the trip to the San Paolo, and it is likely Michele Pazienza will be given the nod to face his former employers alongside Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo in midfield.

Carling Cup

Chelsea - Liverpool

Chelsea has had its worst start to a season since Roman Abramovich took control of the club in 2003.Andre Villas-Boas has a full squad to choose from, with the exception of suspended captain John Terry and long-term injury absentee Michael Essien.

The Blues boss is likely to ring the changes though, with the only survivors from Saturday’s encounter with Wolves likely to be Branislav Ivanovic and Oriol Romeu.

Liverpool is unlikely to recall Craig Bellamy, who missed Sunday’s clash with Manchester City following Gary Speed's death. Kenny Dalglish is likely to hand a start to youngsters Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing, while Andy Carroll could get the nod after spending the last two matches on the bench.

Arsenal - Manchester City

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger is likely to revert to his normal policy where the League Cup is concerned and select the cream of the academy crop, with players such as Francis Coquelin and Ignasi Miquel likely to feature.

For Roberto Mancini, it will probably be a more straightforward task of rotation to ensure all of his players are ready for if and when they are needed in the title run, though there may be a few more familiar faces than in the hosts' squad.

Jomo Cosmos looking for the 1st win of the season

Jomo Cosmos will battle Black Leopards in the Absa Premieship tonight at the Giyani Stadium for the 19h30 kick-off

They will be hoping to register their first win of the 2011/12 since coming back to elite league.Jomo Sono has assured his supporters not worry about relegation as its early days.Cosmos has scored only 6 goals and conceded 17 goals since the start of the season

Cosmos will be without enterprising midfielder Tshidiso “Dona” Tukane, the 25-year-old playmaker hurt his knee cap at training on Saturday, and has been ruled out for at least three weeks.

This is a battle of the two bottom clubs with Cosmos occupying the 16th spot and Leopards on the 15th spot

Black Leopards come in the game with a a 1-0 win against Amazulu a week ago. Leopards signed the former Bloemfontein player Taaibos and will be hoping to be in the starting line up.

The 30 year old Taaibos agreed terms and signed on the dotted line. He brings with him an immense amount of experience and has in the past played for the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars.

We owed our fans, says Pirates star

We owed our fans, says Pirates star

Siyabonga Sangweni says the Orlando Pirates owed it to their fans to beat Golden Arrows in Saturday’s Telkom Knockout Cup semi-final.

Siyabonga Sangweni says the Orlando Pirates owed it to their fans to beat Golden Arrows in Saturday’s Telkom Knockout Cup semi-final.

The defender produced a man-of-the-match performance against his former team as the Pirates claimed a 3-1 victory on Saturday to book their place in the final.

And Sangweni hopes the win made up for the poor showing in their league defeat to Bidvest Wits a week earlier.

"There was no way Arrows or any other team for that matter could have stopped us on Saturday," he told the club's official website.

"We were hell-bent on reaching the final and I am happy we have managed to accomplish this goal."

"It was a collective team effort that we came back from a goal down to win the match 3-1 and qualify for the final."

"The victory was important for us and especially the supporters after we let them down against Wits a week ago. Losing against Arrows wasn't an option."

"We showed that we needed the win more than they did because we have a score to settle and had to regain the faith and confidence of our supporters after disappointing them in Mbombela."

Pirates will now meet Wits in the Cup final on December 10 after The Students' 3-0 defeat of Santos in the second semi-final on Sunday.

Liverpool
1 vs 1
Manchester City

Manchester City remains unbeaten in the Premier League but could only maintain its lead at the top of the table as Liverpool held them to a 1-1 draw.

City took the lead through Vincent Kompany in the first half as the captain headed in from a corner, but were quickly pegged back by a deflected Charlie Adam shot.

Liverpool was on the front foot for much of the second half, with Joe Hart on top form to deny Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and others after substitute Mario Balotelli was sent off after picking up two bookings in his 18 minutes on the pitch.

The result means City retain its five-point lead that it came into the weekend with, but could not capitalize on Manchester United's dropped points on Saturday, while Liverpool move up into sixth position in the league.

The match started at a frenetic pace in the opening 10 minutes, though little came in the way of true chances. Yaya Toure came closest to opening the scoring when, following some head tennis in the box after a corner, he fired well over on the half volley.

City looked to be the more likely to open the scoring, keeping a high defensive line and pressing well inside the Liverpool half. The hosts did look dangerous, however, through the counter attacking capabilities of Dirk Kuyt, Luis Suarez and Downing.

The first real moment of danger came when Jose Enrique attempted a back-pass to Pepe Reina that was seriously lacking in power.

The pass was pounced on by Sergio Aguero, but as he got to the ball he was met with a sliding tackle from Reina. The ball did hit the ‘keeper’s hand, but only after it had rebounded off Aguero, and he certainly couldn not have done anything to get out of the way.

While there hadn’t been too much in the way of true efforts on goal, City was having more than its fair share of corners, and one of these led to the opening goal. It was a fiercely whipped in corner from one of the form players in the Premier League, David Silva.

Vincent Kompany beat both of his markers to the ball, and somehow managed to find the back of the net after the ball cannoned of his shoulder and into the far corner.

But it only took Liverpool a matter of seconds to restore the parity. Charlie Adam found himself some way out in plenty of space, and with nothing else really on, he elected for a shot which he had dragged quite badly.

It was heading well wide until the intervention of Joleon Lescott, who unwittingly deflected the ball past Joe Hart and into the back of the net.

After he doubled back, he found the on-rushing Adam just inside the penalty, but he placed his right-footed shot too close to Hart, who managed to save the ball despite heading in the other direction.

The match up until this point had been tense, but was somewhat lacking in intensity and chances, but after the equalizer, the game really seemed to have the potential to become an epic.

15 minutes into the second half the only thing standing between City and a second goal was Enrique, who did well to cut out Clichy's cross at the back post with Aguero lurking.

Reina had to be on his toes moments later as Aguero looked to get on the end of a through ball. The Spanish 'keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and was forced to follow Aguero and dive in to tackle, but luckily for him he won the ball.

With three quarters of the game gone, Hart was called into action again, pushing over a Downing volley which had been struck into the floor but was heading into the top corner.

The Reds again came close minutes later as Adam whipped in a devilish free-kick that again caused a game of pinball in the box, with the ball bouncing into the thankful arms of Joe Hart. And seconds later Downing shinned a volley across the face of goal with Kuyt agonisingly close to turning the ball in as he slid in at the far post.

The home side was certainly looking the most likely to find a winner as the match drew towards the final stages, with the home crowd willing the ball into the net. And with the match finely poised as it was, Mancini would have been hoping that his players would keep a cool head.

But Balotelli received his marching orders in the 83rd minute, having only been on the pitch for 18 of those. The Italian picked up two quick bookings, one for a needless tug on Glen Johnson, and a second for an elbow to Martin Skrtel's head.

Perhaps Balotelli could claim that his reputation preceded him, but after making such a silly challenge on Johnson only minutes before, the second was careless and he did catch the defender with a leading elbow.

In the closing stages Hart made a good stop from Suarez at his near-post before City broke through substitute Edin Dzeko. Dzeko found an unmarked Silva in the centre, but the Spaniard was tied up by his countryman Reina with Skrtel getting back on the line to clear the eventual shot.

In the last action of the match, Hart was at full stretch to fabulously deny Carroll from a header that surely would have earned the hosts all three points, but the visitors maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Meet the tennis Freak

Siwengu - The Fan caught up with Lebogang Poen who is a great fan of tennis.Other than being a freak tennis supporter, she is also a writer, producer and promos.

Siwengu decided to profile the lovely Miss Poen and get to know more about her love for tennis and the current Barclays ATP tour tournament held in London played between Rafael Nadal and Jo-Wilfried on the 24/11/2011

SF- what did you think of the match between Nadal and Jo

LP- Hey ..yeah it was a great was a tight match, but it was too much to ask for Rafa to win cos he hasn't ben himself lately and Tsonga has been unstoppable when on form

SF-Rafa said he was unable to motivate himself in the last competitions, now that Jo is in the semi-finals, do you think he can win the tournament?

LP-Tsonga has had the potential to go even deeper into the top 10 before but his fitness problems have kept him at bay.And when injuries come on him they come down heavy...but if he A ok for a bit,we''l be seeing him reaching a career high which is good for the tour.

SF-How far do you see him go in the Barclays ATP tour?

LP- I don't think he will win the tournament but he may make me swallo my words. The kind of unforced errors he continuously makes, will get him punished severly.Nadal wasn't able to capitalise on that factor, but others will

SF- Do you support soccer and if so which local team do you support?

LP- I don't have a local team hey

SF- Okay, back to tennis, who is your favourite tennis player and when did you fall inlove with tennis?

LP- Favourite tennis players are Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic but obvisously i have had other's,when did i fall in love with tennis? well been following tennis for long hey, since i was an early teen.

SF- Have you played and if so,at what level?

LP- have never wanted to play professionally...mayb its strange cos i love the sport, i played in high school

Lebohang thank you for taking time to chat to us, Tennis South Africa should have more people like you

LP- Greatness doesnt come with the title, especialy in tennis, but sadly thats how a lot of people remember athletes. Its tough just even to compete

Besiktas denies racial motives

Besiktas has issued a statement to deny that racial motives were behind Galatasaray's Emmanuel Eboue being hit with several objects in Sunday's goalless draw between the clubs.

The Ivory Coast international was pelted with water bottles and cigarette lighters during the match, and it was suggested that the former Arsenal man had been a target of racial abuse from Besiktas' fans.

The Inonu Stadium outfit, however, stated that the fans' anger towards Eboue was caused by the Ivorian play-acting to mislead the referee.
"The treatment Emmanuel Eboue was given by Besiktas fans on Sunday has nothing to do with racism," said Besiktas spokesman Mete Duren.
"Similar treatment was given to a Turkish player during the game as well, the sole motivation for the act was Eboue's theatrics aimed at deceiving the referee.
"These are baseless allegations and should not be taken seriously, Besiktas fans have always had extra sympathy for African players because of the club's black-and-white colors. It's true that Turkish football has many issues to resolve, but racism is simply not one of them.
Besiktas is sixth in the Turkish League, with 18 points from 11 matches, while Galatasaray is third, with one point more.

Leverkusen vs Chelsea Preview

Chelsea Football could clinch the top spot in their group in tonight's game against Bayer Leverkusen but the host will hope that the play to a draw to hold of Valencia for the knockout round

Karim Bellarabi and Hanno Balitsch are also anticipated to be left out of the matchday squad due to thigh problems. Long-term casualties Renato Augusto, Michael Ortega, Tranquillo Barnetta, and Rene Adler are all ruled out of the game due to knee injuries.

Didier Drogba returned to action for Chelsea on Sunday, having recovered from an elbow knock. He will be available for selection, as will Alex and John Obi Mikel, who have shaken off back problems. The big absentee from CFC's line-up is Michael Essien, who has been out since the preseason due to knee ligament damage.

Chiefs coach lays down challenge

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic has challenged Lucky Khune and Dominic Mateba to take their careers more seriously.

Vermezovic made a comparison between Khune and Mateba and another pair of young players who have begun to make serious inroads at the South African Premier Soccer League club in George Lebese and Lucky Baloyi.

"Lucky Baloyi and George Lebese are more serious than Khune and Mateba; these two guys don't take football very seriously, like it is a job. They enjoy playing but it seems like it is more for fun," Vermezovic told to Kickoff.com.

"So they will probably both go on loan in January to get some game experience because they need to play regularly."

Left winger Lebese is knocking on the door for a call up to South Africa's Under-23 squad, and has already caught the eye of Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.

Italy latest on Beckham radar

David Beckham may make a shock return to Serie A if he decides to leave LA Galaxy when his contract expires.
David Beckham may make a shock return to Serie A if he decides to leave LA Galaxy when his contract expires.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United midfielder's five-year deal with the MLS side ends this month and it is widely believed that he will depart for another stint in Europe, with Paris Saint-German the apparent frontrunners for his signature.
The 36-year-old's last European adventure came at the San Siro where he had two loan spells with AC Milan, making 33 appearances for the club during MLS close-season periods.
"I had a fantastic experience at Milan, one I will never forget," Beckham told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I don't intend to retire and will assess where is best for my family, though I will not return to the Premier League. "
"I have received some offers from Italy, but haven't spoken to (PSG director of sport) Leonardo about my future."
However, the former England captain has not ruled out prolonging his stay in the US after he lifted his first trophy with the Galaxy this week, as they secured the MLS Cup with a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo on Sunday.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri will be without the services of Antonio Cassano who is recovering from heart surgery while Philippe Mexes is still nursing a broken wrist.

Alexandre Pato came on as a substitute in the goalless draw against Fiorentina at the weekend and could be handed a starting role up front in Wednesday's encounter.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola faces a selection headache at right-back as Dani Alves is suspended and Adriano is injured. Carles Puyol could slide over to full-back and Javier Mascherano to the centre of defence to compensate for the Brazilian duo's absence.

Andres Iniesta will miss the crunch clash with a thigh strain, but Pedro recently returned from an ankle problem and could see some action off the bench.

  • AC Milan has only won three out of their last 10 home games in the Champions League.
  • Massimiliano Allegri's men have won six out of their last eight matches in all competitions.
  • The Rossoneri have picked up two wins at San Siro against Barca in the Champions League (W2 D1 L2).
  • Alexandre Pato scored the fifth fastest goal in the history of the competition (24 seconds) at Camp Nou in the 2-2 draw on September 13, 2011.
  • Barcelona has scored more goals than any other club in this season's tournament so far (13).
  • The holders have succumbed to only one defeat in their last eight Champions League encounters away from Camp Nou.
  • The Blaugrana's overall record against Italian teams in Europe is W5 D6 L5.
  • Pep Guardiola's side have outscored their opponents 9-0 in their last two away matches in Group H.
